Data visualization research

Today I read that Zero Linden has confirmed some interoperability between the opensim project and Second Life, which is great news.  It makes it slightly more likely that the project(s) I’ve been working on will pan out a bit, and that OpenSim will become the dominant server software in the “3d web.”

A small project I’ve been working on involves taking large scale terrain data and meshing that with other data, such as mine field data.  The implementation I’m working on right now would be to take this and model a real world mine detection program within the OpenSim domain with some pathfinder AI logic.  I’ve had the height map data for a while and with OpenSim reaching some level of maturity, I think it would be a great opportunity to find some real world robotics/simulation application.

The Chisel project I was working on also had applications in MANET development, and I’ve learned a bit more about the different strategies involved with mobile adhoc networking.  When more of the LSL functions are working properly in opensim, I’ll port chisel over (or just use C#) and try to do some more real world, real time data mashups.

For a while there, I forgot I had a blog - I’ve been so busy getting other business ventures off the ground.  I’m hoping to post more frequently now that I’ve got a little free time.

Hello world!
